Using the Web to Save Women
by admin
Women Deliver will be presenting at the Speakers Corner at the Global Health Council. My topic is this: Using the Web to Save Women. I completely believe that the web is a powerful advocacy tool — and one that still has so much unchartered territory. I also believe that sometimes non-profits and NGOs lag behind in terms of technology. It’s understandable — a lot of times, non-profits don’t have the money to invest in tools and systems that private companies can easily install and implement. But, there are still many ways we can harness the Internet for good, and use it to really make an impact in saving women and mothers.
I have some great ideas for this presentation, but let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions!

Have you seen this piece from Alex De Wall which speculates that media attention can reduce violence? http://www.ssrc.org/blogs/darfur/2009/05/11/attention-and-deterrence/

Alanna — So interesting! Unique to look to at the media as a positive influence on crises situations. Usually people love to drag the media through the mud for all the harm it does. Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing!
